Senior Financial Analyst – Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

Job Summary:
This role will report to the Finance Manager and work closely with the broader NewRange Copper Nickel (NewRange) project Leadership team based in Northern Minnesota.
The Senior Financial Analyst will have exposure to a diverse set of finance roles and responsibilities across the project and will be instrumental in helping build out our FP&A function which will support the long-term strategic plans for NewRange’s project development.
Foundationally, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with a cross functional team of leaders to synthesize the company strategic plans into the development of financial models supporting life of asset plans, feeding into the annual budgeting cycle and the development of comprehensive and value conscious budgets.
Through the year, the financial analyst will be expected to prepare meaningful forecasts to represent accurately the company’s progress against business objectives and highlight any opportunities or optimizations that might arise between budget cycles.
In close collaboration with the Finance Manager and the broader NewRange Project Leadership team, the role will support the completion of capital cost, operating cost, sustaining cost, tax, and combined investment return trade-off analysis for NewRange’s project development phases.
The role will compile results of site investigation programs, engineering studies, capital and operating cost estimates, execution plans, environmental baseline work and will support as required the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and in certain instances NI 43-101 Technical Reports.

Overview: Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a 50:50 joint venture of subsidiaries of Teck and Glencore that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Mesaba.
Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Mesaba project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting.

Participate in Life of Asset (LOA) planning and development of LOA financial models under various alternative investment cases (i.
e.
constrained, base, blue sky).
Coordinate with area managers to prepare a comprehensive annual budget on a ground up basis, allowing for benchmarking and performance management against established goals.
Produce detailed monthly forecasts and analysis, both for operational expenses and for use in project management reporting.
Collaborate with the procurement team to contribute to a living procurement plan, driven by budget, forecasts/projections and evolving priorities, with a goal of optimizing the capacity of the procurement team and achieving value for money in purchasing.
Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making processes and track progress against strategic goals.
Prepare presentations/group communications as required, ensuring messaging is succinct, purposeful and consistent in tone.
Perform economic assessment of major project / asset-level investment opportunities: Develop financial models using technical and financial inputs to be used to provide investment decision recommendations for NewRange.
Analysis of internal capital allocation options.
Provide guidance to investor relations regarding project investment plans and key project metrics.
Continuously acquire general knowledge of local tax, financial, business, and economic conditions to apply this knowledge appropriately in the evaluation of investment in Minnesota and USA.
Through effective communication and engagement, build respectful working relationships within the Project Team, technical, operational, commercial, management, asset owners, and external stakeholders including various levels of government and the Tribal Nations to contribute to the stability and functionality of NewRange’s reputation, management, and governance practices.

Minimum Qualifications: A degree in Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
A professional designation related to finance (e.
g.
, Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Master of Business Administration).
Previous experience in the Mining, Energy and/or Natural Resources sectors will be considered an asset.
5 – 8 years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferrable skillsets.
An ability to simplify complex finance processes with a focus on efficiency and accountability and delivering good service to the business.
Ability to develop and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision-making.
Thorough understanding of analytical methods and concepts in finance with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems.
Experience with preparing and presenting executive level communications and analysis.
Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across the Company JV Partnership.
A self-starter able to prioritize amongst multiple evaluations at once and work with limited guidance.
A student of the industry – possess or develop the background and expertise to contribute to commodity and industry specific analysis both regionally and globally.
A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills.
